Quality control of water

392_MG_5712-elenhos-poiotitPotable water is characterized as the water that is clean from a physical, chemical, biological and microbiological aspect and can be consumed without endangering the human health. The drinking water should be colorless, odorless, fresh and with a pleasant taste. It must not have a large hardness, because this will cause difficulties in everyday life but also in its industrial use. It must not contain a large amount of organic substances, heavy metals nor pathogenic parasites or bacteria. The water temperature should constantly be at 10 – 15 C°(Celsius). To ensure the superior quality of the water, we closely cooperate with the CHEMICAL SERVICE OF IOANNINA (GCSL), as well as with the LABORATORY OF HEALTH AT IOANNINA UNIVERSITY.

Basic categories of bottled water

The term “bottled water” refers to water that is provided to the market packed in airtight glass or plastic bottles, or plastic containers and is intended for human consumption (MDΑ1b/4871/79)

Natural mineral water

(According to Directive 80/777/ΕΚ)
It is water microbiologically appropriate, with underground origin and subject to exploitation by one or more outputs of a natural or artificial source after drilling or through other similar projects. Drinkable water is generally distinguished:
1. By its natural consistence, characterized by its content of minerals, trace elements or other components and in some cases by certain effects on the human body.
2. By its initial natural condition, features that both have been preserved intact through the underground origin of the water, which is protected from any risk of pollution.
3. Differences with other kinds of water
Table water: ordinary water, surface or underground, that may have been undergoing a series of physiochemical processes in order to be exempted from microbes or elements inappropriate for the human health. However, in natural mineral waters no treatments of the water are allowed. Source water: exclusively of underground origin, that is bottled on the spot without going through any treatment. However, in its chemical composition, there are no minerals or trace elements in contrast with the natural mineral water.
