Water and Dehydration

Dehydration is the state of which the body has devolved in from excessive loss of body fluid. The loss of more than 3% of our body fluid leads to dehydration, while the loss of more than 20% could be fatal. In the mild form, our body gives us signs that it is essential to drink water, through thirst. If this mild form is not rectified, the mouth will dry, the skin will turn into a red color and intense fatigue will appear. In the very severe cases of dehydration, the blood pressure will drop dangerously; thus no enough blood will circulate to the body organs, which can even lead to death! The factors that could cause dehydration are the following:
- Weather.
- Age.
The hotter and more humid the weather is, the greater is the risk of dehydration. In such weather conditions, we should avoid exercise and drink plenty of water!
The older age a person has, the harder it is for the body to maintain the normal amount of water needed. For instance, the elderly lose more water from the urine and also do not feel strongly the sense of thirst, and should therefore drink more water, in particular - before they get thirsty.
There are many medicines that cause loss of body fluid.
